1. What's my monthly budget — really? It's easy to focus on the sticker price, but the monthly payment is what you'll actually live with. A good rule of thumb is to look at your take-home pay and decide what you can comfortably cover every month without stretching. Bring that number with you. It helps everyone find the right fit faster.

2. How much am I putting down? A larger down payment lowers what you borrow, which usually means a smaller monthly payment and less interest over time. Even a modest amount up front can make a difference. If you have a trade-in, that value can go toward your down payment too.

3. What's the total cost, not just the payment? A lower monthly payment sometimes means a longer loan — and a longer loan can cost more overall. Ask to see the full picture: the amount financed, the interest rate, and the length of the loan. There are no wrong questions here.

4. Is my credit where I think it is? Your credit history affects the terms you're offered. It's worth checking yours before you shop so there are no surprises.
